Summary

Block Communications Inc. (BCI) is a 118-year-old privately held diversified media holdings company headquartered in Toledo, Ohio. Folio3 seamlessly integrated their Shopify powered, multi-vendor, e-commerce web store with their back-office ERP system.

The Challenge

Block Communications was running their Shopify Plus powered multi-vendor marketplace and using Oracle’s NetSuite as a back-office ERP system. With the data being managed manually between the two disparate systems, it took a lot of data entry effort to keep both systems in sync. The additional time required for these processes and the risk of error associated with manual data handling was a pain point for the company.

Solution

Folio3’s proprietary NetSuite Shopify Integration connector is an Integration-as-a-Service product that delivers end-to-end integration for your Shopify web store and NetSuite ERP system. The connector seamlessly automates all data flows and end-to-end processes, ultimately saving valuable time, added effort, and the cost that is usually incurred in manually keeping the Shopify and NetSuite accounts accurately synced.

With the integration, BCI was able to perfectly connect its Shopify Plus account with NetSuite allowing streamlined data flow throughout the two systems. The connector’s standard vanilla feature set included:

  • Import Customers from Shopify to NetSuite.
  • Import Sales Orders from Shopify to NetSuite.
  • Export item data from NetSuite to Shopify.
  • Invoice sync from NetSuite to Shopify.
  • Export Sale Price from NetSuite to Shopify.
  • Export Refunds from NetSuite to Shopify.
  • Import selected Shopify orders from the Connector Dashboard.
  • Search for Imported Shopify Sales Orders in NetSuite.
  • Search for Imported Shopify Customer records in NetSuite.
  • Sync Sales Orders on-demand from Shopify to NetSuite from the Connector Dashboard.
  • Sync Items on-demand from NetSuite to Shopify from the Connector Dashboard.
  • Sync Refunds on-demand NetSuite to Shopify from the Connector Dashboard.

Other than the standard feature set, BCI also required some specific customizations to cater to their unique business needs:

  • The ability to synchronize both single vendor and multi-vendor Shopify orders to NetSuite.
  • Disabling the connector’s inventory quantity sync workflow.
  • Support for the synchronization of non-inventory items from NetSuite to Shopify.
  • Synchronization of Item class from NetSuite to Shopify as the “vendor name” when synchronizing items from NetSuite to Shopify.
  • The ability to synchronize vendor collections from NetSuite to Shopify.
  • The ability to synchronize refunds from NetSuite to Shopify against split NetSuite orders.

Result
