SuiteCommerce Migration from NetSuite SiteBuilder and Legacy SCA (v.18.1 and Older)

WHY MIGRATE

Why Should Ecommerce Businesses Upgrade their SuiteCommerce Setup?

You might be thinking that 2029 is far, and your SuiteCommerce migration can wait. But here’s exactly why running your ecommerce website on
NetSuite SiteBuilder and legacy SuiteCommerce Advanced for longer will hurt your business:

Delayed Migration Will Cost You More

Your site developed on SiteBuilder and SuiteCommerce Advanced 18.1 or older versions will accumulate more technical debt until January 2029 arrives. This will straight up add to both the time and cost to perform the SuiteCommerce migration.

You’re Not Getting New Features

As of today, you can no longer use new features that your competitors are already using to run their ecommerce business. You’re missing out on improved transaction performance metrics, optimized payment processing integrations, and other useful features.

SiteBuilder Has Performance Issues

NetSuite SiteBuilder uses a legacy server-side rendering (SSR) engine that serves fully compiled images. But it slows down your site load time with full-page reloads. While SuiteCommerce Advanced uses client-side rendering, which improves the load time.

Your Site Visibility is Already Hurting

Users of legacy versions report poor search engine visibility and SEO performance due to Core Web Vitals (CWV) failing. Also, JSON-LD markups are not natively supported, which means rich snippets and product info are not visible to prospective customers.

Legacy SCA Has a Pricing Visibility Problem

SuiteCommerce Advanced 18.1 and older versions have a bug that causes your audience to see the pricing that you supposedly gated behind the “Require Login for Pricing” button, as search engines could scrape tiered pricing tables.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SiteBuilder still supported today, and what does "end of support" mean in practice?

SiteBuilder is still supported, but new feature development is focused on SuiteCommerce only. After the end-of-life date, SiteBuilder storefronts will no longer receive updates, security patches, or compatibility fixes. This will lead to operational disruption, which will increase issues in product catalog presentation, pricing logic, checkout workflows, and any internal dependencies tied to existing scripts or templates.

Performing a bundle update replaces all files in the existing SCA Source directory with the updated set of files. Your existing customizations must be re-deployed from your local environment before changes take effect on your live domain. This is why regression testing is critical, as SuiteScript customizations built for one version do not automatically survive a major upgrade.

Migrations are measured in months, and most teams approach them in phases. The good news is that a full data migration is not required since products, customers, pricing, orders, and operational data already exist in your NetSuite instance. The migration focuses on rebuilding the storefront and making adjustments, so data is consumed correctly by the new architecture. But customizations need to be rebuilt from scratch for SCA.

Will our storefront go down during the migration?

No. We run the full migration in a parallel environment. Your live storefront continues operating as usual. We only cut over traffic once you’ve reviewed and approved the migrated environment in staging, and we maintain a tested rollback path throughout.

Yes. All custom SuiteScript, theme extensions, checkout workflows, and third-party integrations are fully inventoried and rebuilt to current standards. If a customization is no longer viable in the new architecture, we will tell you upfront with alternatives before we start.

What are the performance and SEO improvements from migrating?

Migrating off SiteBuilder or legacy SCA almost always results in meaningful SEO and performance improvements. Common outcomes include:

  • Cleaner URL structures that search engines understand better
  • Improved page speed and Core Web Vitals
  • Stronger mobile indexing and responsiveness
  • Better content structure for both users and search engines

Modern SuiteCommerce includes native B2B infrastructure: company accounts with multiple buyer contacts, customer-specific price lists, gated product catalogs, net payment terms, and purchase order capture at checkout. These required SuiteScript development to implement in legacy SCA versions. On newer versions (2025.2 and above releases), these are merchant-configurable without developer involvement.
