Why did Native American Seed need automation of the pick/pack/ship process?

NetSuite’s Pick, Pack, and Ship feature allows tracking order fulfillment through separate staged transactions – first picking items from inventory, then packing them for shipment, and finally shipping to customers. Native American Seed was looking for a structured workflow from online order to shipment. Moreover, Native American Seed opted for Folio3 to implement the NetSuite SuiteSuccess Manufacturing Implementation for unified financials, inventory, CRM, and e-commerce on a single cloud platform.

The Challenge

Without real-time inventory data integrated across platforms, issues like overselling, stockouts, or customer dissatisfaction due to inaccurate product availability arises.
They had difficulty tracking agricultural-specific data, which they had to do manually. This was extremely stressful and challenging, and caused errors in fulfilling specialized seed orders.
They were lacking direct integration between their e-commerce platform (BigCommerce) and backend systems, which led to delays in order processing and fulfillment.

Solution

Our implementation purpose was to address the specific challenges agricultural businesses face, particularly in seed distribution.

We introduced critical agriculture-specific features that are essential for maintaining seed quality and traceability throughout the supply chain, like:
- Lot tracking
- Germ-test
- Bin tracking capabilities

The automated pick/pack/ship workflow generated optimized pick lists organized by warehouse zones. It considers lot numbers and expiration dates and integrates with multiple carriers for rate shopping and label generation.

The bidirectional, real-time integration between NetSuite and BigCommerce created an order flow in which online purchases automatically queue for fulfillment.

The inventory levels update instantly across all channels, preventing overselling, and web shoppers are shown real-time availability.
