Folio3 partnered with Sunlaws Development (Roxburghe Estate) and implemented Oracle NetSuite ERP to centralize operations across its multi-vertical businesses, including real estate, hospitality, sporting, tourism, agriculture, forestry, and renewable energy.

We held workshops to discuss the requirements of each business unit and adopted an iterative approach, securing phased sign-offs while minimizing missed requirements. Our functional consultants and developers went the extra mile to handle evolving intercompany requirements.

To address the rigid integration offered by Re-Leased, Folio3 developed a custom mapping that applied logic and extracted revenue start and end dates from Re-Leased comments and populated the appropriate fields in NetSuite. This ensured compliance-ready revenue recognition despite integration limitations.

The Challenges

  • Multiple subsidiaries across real estate, hospitality, agriculture, and tourism. The client had diverse operational and revenue recognition requirements. Capturing and mapping these processes was difficult, as the business could not confirm all details upfront. Identifying gaps, iterating, and obtaining sign-off became a challenge.
  • The intercompany customization needs evolved during the project, especially as new financial segments were introduced. This required major enhancements to the automation for intercompany invoices, while the pass-through cost allocations solution also extended from service/non-inventory items to expense allocations.
  • The parallel implementation of the Re-Leased system created dependency risks. Its standard integration only allowed a fixed set of field mappings and did not pass critical revenue recognition fields into NetSuite, which became a potential showstopper.
  • The finance team was heavily reliant on their legacy system and spreadsheets. Transitioning to automated NetSuite workflows demanded intensive training, iterative testing, and change management support to ensure adoption.
