The SuiteCommerce patch highlights critical updates and actions required to secure your eCommerce websites using SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA).
NetSuite has issued a warning to its customers that their SuiteCommerce Advanced (SCA) -based websites will cease functioning after a specific date unless a necessary update or “patch” is applied.
According to them, this update is crucial for enhancing website security and ensuring continued functionality.
Why is updating SuiteCommerce with this patch necessary?
With the 2025.1 release, NetSuite is modifying roles and permissions for custom records related to Product Reviews and Product Lists (used by Wishlists in SCA). Currently, permissions for these custom records are set to “No Permissions Needed,” but they will automatically switch to “Use Permission List” following the NetSuite version upgrade.
This change will vary depending on the client’s upgrade timeline. Once this alteration takes effect, SuiteCommerce services will lose access to these custom records, leading to website functionality issues.
This problem impacts all customers using SuiteCommerce Advanced versions older than v2024.2.
Disclaimer: NetSuite is sending personalized emails to various clients, specifying a unique deadline for implementing these changes.
What is Changing?
Currently, both the Product Reviews and Product List bundles contain custom records with permissions that must be changed to provide a higher level of security.
To achieve this, NetSuite will introduce two new roles to execute the services and lower the access level for the custom records contained in the bundles.
What the Patch Will Do
The patch will add new roles:
- SC Product Lists to Reference Product Lists Records
- SC Product Review to Reference Product Review Records
How can Folio3 help with SuiteCommerce patch implementation for your websites?
To address this issue, Folio3 can help with the following:
1. Apply a Core Module-Level Patch
NetSuite recommends this approach in its documentation. It involves implementing code changes to patch the affected SCA modules.
While this solution ensures compliance, it requires maintaining core module customizations alongside other client-specific extensions.
2. Upgrade to the Latest SuiteCommerce Advanced Version (2024.2)
Upgrading to v2024.2 eliminates the need for a core-level patch, as the latest version already includes the required code changes.
However, this approach demands more extensive coding and testing compared to the patch application.
